INSTITUTIONAL AUTHORIZATION
Académie de Paris Authorization:
Ministry of National Education, France
Code: French Education Act, Code de l’Education Articles L 444-1 to 444-11 and R 444-1 to 444-28
Under the French education system, private schools are either “sous contrat” – with the government paying teachers’ salaries and the school following the national curriculum – or “hors contrat” – not funded by the government, and therefore not obligated to follow any particular curriculum.
The Paris Metropolitan University is a “hors contrat” school, therefore our awards are not equivalent to awards of French public educational institutions. The Paris Metropolitan University delivers all its programs in the English medium and exclusively enrolls international students outside of France.
The Paris Metropolitan University seeks only international accreditation and professional memberships outside of France due to the nature of its authorization and operations.
Authorization by the Académie de Paris
In the French higher education system, institutions are classified as follows:
•“Sous contrat” – Institutions that receive state funding, where teachers’ salaries are paid by the government, and which follow the national curriculum.
•“Hors contrat” – Institutions that operate independently, do not receive government funding, and are not required to follow a specific curriculum.
Paris Metropolitan University is a “hors contrat” institution and therefore grants institutional diplomas/awards. Due to its authorization, operational framework, and legal status in France, Paris Metropolitan University may seek program-specific recognition and accreditation separately from government-recognized organizations within the European Union and globally.
Restrictions
Under current French education law, private institutions may not use the terms baccalauréat, licence, master, doctorat for their degrees or diplomas. Paris Metropolitan University complies with this regulation and instead uses the terms “Bachelor,” “Master,” and “Doctor” strictly in the form authorized by the Académie de Paris. These qualifications are institutional diplomas and not national diplomas. All programs at Paris Metropolitan University are delivered exclusively in English and entirely through distance learning.
Transparency
French private educational institutions are required to clearly distinguish their institutional diplomas from national diplomas awarded by public universities, to prevent misrepresentation while maintaining their academic values. To eliminate any uncertainty, diplomas issued by Paris Metropolitan University are strictly institutional diplomas and not national diplomas.
General
The University reserves the right to enforce these Terms by restricting access, suspending accounts, or initiating legal proceedings in cases of breach.
